Small Town Girl

Well I was born in a small town.
And I live(d) in a small town.
Prob'ly die in a small town,
Oh, those small communities.
This is (was) my house growing up in Rifle Colorado.  Population:  5000
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
My 20th high school reunion was this weekend.  There were 108 of us that graduated that year.  Yes, we all knew each other.  We all knew each other very, very well.

Educated in a small town
Taught to fear Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another born romantic that's me
Here we are, 20 years ago!

But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll (actually a California boy)and brought her (him) to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
This is us having a ball.  Hippie ghosts in case you were wondering.

No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

John Cougar Mellencamp has definitely got it right.  It was so thrilling for me to be able to come back to my small town for my 20th class reunion.  It was walking into a room of old friends.  I felt loved.  I could be myself.  These are people who knew me before college, husband, kids.  We may or may not have a lot in common now, but together we survived the ups and downs of Rifle High School.  We wanted "Welcome to the Jungle" for our class graduation song.  (Denied) We came in last for the Homecoming float - maybe every year?  We learned to drive.  We learned to survive.  We had a ball in our small town.  And we had a ball 20 years after graduating.  We even danced to Welcome to the Jungle.  :)

I'm so glad you had fun, Mindy! It makes me so feel so excited for my 20-year reunion. You look absolutely gorgeous! There is no way anybody who didn't know would mistake you for a 20-year high school grad. Did anybody ask you if you were looking for your mom and dad there? ;)

On another note, I can't believe how much Sierra is starting to look like you as she gets older. Cute girl! Miss you guys!

How is it possible that you've been out of HS for 20 years?? You don't look a day over 25, seriously Mindy!!!

That's a small graduation class-- bet it was fun to know everyone!
